When I began to study Pilates, I was surprised to discover how many similarities I had with Joseph Pilates himself.  I was privileged enough to have been brought up with two parents both passionate about health and fitness: my Mother, a gymnastics coach since 1986, a primary teacher who specialised in Personal Social Health Education and a keen rescue diver, and my father came from a family who loved the outdoors.

A little like Joseph I had my own struggles to overcome. My parents separated when I was a child and I was unable to see my father from the age of 8. After this, the first signs of an eating disorder began to appear. By the time I was 14 this had developed into insomnia, anorexia, bulimia, and depression, and my coping mechanisms were destructive and resulted in anxiety. After many years of suffering this cycle, I decided I wasn’t going to let it continue any longer!

I developed a passion for nutrition after being reunited with my father in my early 20’s. My father and his wife are both passionate about health and wellbeing and I was inspired to expand my knowledge of food and the human body, and in doing so I began to heal myself. I had some experience from teaching gymnastics from age 14 to 27, but was very aware that I still needed to learn more!

I threw myself into my full-time job as an account manager, took on 2 diplomas in Pilates, and Personal Training with Nutrition, ran a nutrition business on the side and was weightlifting 3 times a week.  I was almost there, but I hadn’t quite got it. I was trying to be healthy, and a better person generally, but I just wouldn’t give myself a break.  I had been running at 100mph for so long I couldn’t even see it.  Eventually, my body began to give up, physically and mentally; at this point, I knew that I had to make a change in my life.

Pilates had always been a passion of mine and with my background as a gymnastics coach, this was a very natural progression for me. Pilates offered me the opportunity to not only teach people to become stronger, more flexible, and have a better posture, but with its holistic approach I could also help people gain confidence, feel calmer and connect with their bodies.  I had dreamt of starting my own pilates and personal training business; I wanted to provide elite training that was fun, effective, and affordable!  BeMoore Pilates and Personal Training was born and I could now dedicate my future to helping others.
